[ katara waits a few hours after investigation ends before looking for keith. after not finding him in the hut, she goes for the place she first ran into him alone weeks ago. the oasis. and that's where she finds him.

she approaches him slowly, ha...nd... behind her back. she doesn't really know what to say in a situation like this. keith is one of the people that katara quickly grew attached to, so the thought that he is most likely going to die on sunday isn't exactly a good one.

but he feels worse. ]

[Katara, at least, he feels comfortable enough around that he doesn't immediately want to be alone when she approaches him. It's only been three weeks, but he's definitely grown to trust her. They even lost limbs together, which. Isn't actually a bonding experience, and he feels guilty about bringing her along at all, but—

He shakes his head, scooting over as if to make space for her.]

Stay. There's... something I wanted to talk to you about, anyway.

[ she'll immediately take the offered spot at his side. there's a lot she wants to say, but she doesn't really know how to say any of them. she's a little relieved when he says there's a topic he already has in mind. ]

What is it?

[It's less of a conversational topic and more of a last request. It's a selfish thing, he's definitely thinking of himself here — but that's pretty much in character, isn't it? He's always thinking of himself, making bad choices whenever he picks his own wants before the good of the collective. At least this time he can pretend it's for a good cause.

He won't be able to do it himself after this weekend, after all.]

There's something I need returned to its rightful owner. [It's a long shot. He knows.] If I leave it to you, think you can try to get it done after this is over?

[ it's definitely a long shot, especially when she isn't even entirely sure that she'll make it out of here alive herself. still. if there is even a tiny chance that she'll be able to complete the request, she'll try. ]

Yes. [ even if she's inwardly a little uncertain, it doesn't show in her voice. ] I'll do my best.

[alienated]

[She's alive and unless someone votes for her or Inuyasha, that won't change for what's left of this week. Being alive still means she has a slightly better shot than he does.

But, yeah. Reaching behind him, he pulls something out from under his shirt and waistband. Quietly, he holds it out to her.]

... It belongs to a man named Takashi Shirogane. [...] I know it's easier said than done, but I'd rather it's with someone I can trust to keep it safe in the meanwhile.

[As opposed to, you know, on his corpse.]

He needs to get this back.

[ she accepts it, holding it to her chest. ]

Okay. I'll take good care of it in the meantime, Keith. I promise.

[ she wants to ask who he is, since he's obviously someone important to keith. ]

[He looks relieved at that, like a weight has been taken off his shoulders. Obviously, he's still far from being okay — but this helps.]

[She can ask if she wants. He's not going to lie through his teeth like he did when Lief asked about their items a couple weeks ago.]

[ she does remember keith claiming it wasn't a weapon. admittedly, katara does... not see how this is a weapon. she's not an expert. ]

[He nods.

(Don't ask how they met because I, Kyuu, will personally reach through my screen to throttle you.)]

He's like a brother to me. [Reliable, trustworthy, the family he desperately wants.] I... I wouldn't be who I am today if I hadn't met him.

He sounds like a good person. Why do you have his... thing?

but as someone who actually has a brother, she can understand the sentiment. ]

[Not like it does anything on the island, though. It just stays in it's dormant form.]

... I found it with the rest of my belongings. I never bothered to ask why I have it.

Ah, so you lied.

[ she doesn't sound angry or disappointed about that though. she trusts keith enough to know that he must have had a reason to lie about it, and that reason probably has to do with who it belongs to. ]

I don't understand how they chose what items we got, but... were you more content having this than something of yours?

[Shrugs!! He didn't want people asking about it, and technically it's not a weapon if he can't activate it?]

Not exactly. I'd rather if it was with him, not here with me.

That's true... that would mean he's weaponless right now, wouldn't it...
