CHARACTER NAME: Katara
AGE: 14
CANON Avatar: The Last Airbender
CANON POINT The Firebending Masters
HISTORY: wiki

PERSONALITY:
Katara is the mom friend. She's the person who fusses over others and will try to make sure that everyone is okay and happy. If something seems dangerous, she'll point it out. If someone is upset, she'll be the first one at their side to try to cheer them up. She's the kind of person who is filled with a lot of love and wants to give it out to everyone she meets. In her own words, she will never turn her back on people who need her. She throws herself into helping others to the point where it can be self-sacrificial at times. So, basically, she is very compassionate.

She tends to be one of the optimists in her group. Katara prefers to look at things positively, although there are times where she will also have a more pessimistic outlook depending on her mod. However, she still falls more heavily on the glass half full side of things. If things seem to be going wrong, she'll try to give a pep talk and do her best to try to energize everyone again. She is, basically, full of a lot of hope. When she believes in something, she truly believes in it. And if others don't, then she'll just believe extra hard to make up for it until they eventually do too.

She's very determined. Once she decided to do something, it's pretty much impossible to budge her from it. And because of this, it also makes her extremely loyal? Like, once Katara decides that she will help a person or help a cause, she is married to it. The only way to get her to give up on this is if you pretty much betray her (which I will get into further down). But otherwise, no matter how dangerous it is or even if the people might get mad at her, she'll still do whatever it takes to complete her task.

So, Katara is very attuned to her emotions. Unless she specifically chooses to hide something, she usually wears her feelings on her sleeves. She cries a lot! When she's happy, you'll know it. When she's angry, you'll definitely know it. She isn't the kind of person who will hide the fact that she's annoyed with you; she would prefer to remind you of it frequently. Anyway, because of this, it sometimes seems like she goes between extremes? So she'll be happy one moment, then someone might say something to set her off, and she'll immediately be furious. So she comes off as extremely emotional and sometimes hysterical due to this. The only time she like really chooses to hide her feelings is if she actively trying not to worry someone. Like how she hides the fact that she was actually mad at her dad for leaving to go to the war because she didn't want to worry her brother.

However, it should be pointed out that Katara is... uh. Petty. She's the kind of person that if you wrong her one time four years ago, she will hold a grudge against you for the rest of your lives. There are layers to this though! For example, if your relationship with her flat out begins with the two of you not getting along or being enemies, Katara will actually have an easier time of letting go of that past and accepting you as a friend eventually if you've shown that you want to change your ways. But, if you become her friend or earn her trust, and then break that trust, you're basically dead to her. She will be openly hostile to you to the point of that she may even attack on sight. In canon, there are two main cases of this, and the only way the people in question were able to get her to forgive them after was to a) manage to track down the person who killed her mother and try to help her avenge her death and b) die. So, like, good luck!

On that same note, she has a temper. It is extremely easy to offend Katara. If you say something she does not like, she will snap at you. It's also pretty easy to make her jealous. She's very bad at holding her tongue, and she has gotten into a lot of nasty fights with even her own friends because of this. She sometimes has a hard time seeing other people's point of views on things, which makes this worse. Her anger is a huge motivating force for her though; when she controls it, it helps her focus on beating whatever it is that's upsetting her. Most of the time, though, it's just Katara yelling at people because she has too many feelings in her small body and they cannot be contained.

One of the things about her is that she is set in her own views and what she considers good is. If Katara thinks something is wrong, then it's wrong. It is very, very difficult to convince her of otherwise as soon as she makes this decision, and usually the only way to do it is if her actions end up making things obviously worse. But she won't hesitate to try to change a culture if she thinks that culture is dumb. And like, a lot of the time she's definitely right and it needs to be changed! Because it is bad! But her methods of doing so can be a little domineering as she has a habit of steamrolling right over people. So while her doing this tends to always end for the better and everyone turns out happy in the end, while she is in the process of doing it people are usually mad.

On the flip side of that, it's not always good. Like I said, she tends to have her own definition of what's good! And, as stated above, she's petty! So sometimes she twists things to fit her own narrative? For example, she steals a Waterbending scroll from some pirates. The pirates stole it from a Waterbender, so she claims that it is in her rights to take it back because it didn't belong to them in the first place. And in theory, that logic make senses, if it wasn't for the fact that she lied to her friends about it initially and put them all in a lot of danger over the scroll. And it turns out that her reason for why she took it isn't even the entire truth; it has less to do with reclaiming stolen property of her people, and more just because she really wanted the scroll since she was mad that Aang was better at Waterbending than she was. So she used what would be considered a respectable reason for her actions to hide her less than honorable one.

Anyway, she is also a normal teenage girl? She gets crushes, and they can be the really embarrassing kind where you doodle the person's name in your notebook while giggling. She's also been shown to buy into fads, like when she got so into fortune telling that she based all of her decisions on it. Despite how mature she is on a lot of other subjects, in the end she's still basically a kid who was forced to grow up early. So you'll still see her making the same complaints an average fourteen year old would, or getting into the same type of nonsense.

CANON POWERS:
Katara is a Waterbender! The short summary of that is, basically, she can control water. She's at the level of a master in it though, which means she can do a lot of very fancy stuff!! Basically, almost everything listed in the page I just linked is what she can do, which exceptions being things like Spiritbending, anything listed under Avatar bending, or being able to Bloodbend without a full moon (she needs the moon to do it). I apologize if you prefer me to write it all out, but the list is honestly very long.
