[ sometime after newt basically forcefully carries katara back to her dang hut, she will go back outside. she doesn't really want to stay in there all day. it feels a little suffocating every the show they just had to go through.
she settles onto one of the chairs near the bonfire. she's staring to intently at it that she won't hear someone approaching, even as she complains to herself. ]

They're making us waste time. We could be looking for whoever killed her right now.
[And then... what? More death? They'll be forced to sit through the trial tomorrow, anyway.]

[ she'd immediately assumed it was the killer at first, but hal's reaction to it made her second guess that. ]
Either way, every second we waste just gives the killer more time to think of ways to create an alibi.

We don't know what they — whoever they are, used to do that to her body. [Everyone was too busy losing their chill to talk about the knife, presumably. Not that the knife would have dismembered her, anyway.] And if there was anything useful on the killer it's going to be long gone by tomorrow. We won't have enough evidence to work with.

[ she's not sure how that's supposed to work. there are definitely people here who seem like they're impossible to back into a corner like that. ]
We don't even know how the trial is going to be set up.

[It's easy enough to kill a person why simply stabbing them in the right spot. There's no need to cause any additional damage, and yet — they all stumbled across a dismembered corpse. That's unforgivable.]
The rules won't help, and the chief's won't say anything about it. Our only option is to wait and see.
[And ain't that messed up.]

[ she groans, turning around. ]

[But someone is dead, just like they said. What else is going to go according to their plans?]

[ backtagging is hilarious because you can laugh at their pain. ]

That has the potential of being... difficult.

[thanks, chiefs.]
